This week was our ABC week. We did a lot of fun and interactive activities that helped to teach us the alphabet. On Monday we learned the ABC song. Then, on Tuesday we used the traceable letters to spell our names. On Wednesday we had a mystery box with different objects. Each child took a turn picking a object out of the box. Then, the boys and girls had to tell us the name of the object and the first letter the word began with. Thursday, we read the Dr. Seuss ABC book all together. Lastly, on Friday we did ABC yoga and gym.

We had a fantastic week learning the ABC's. Here are a few pictures from this weeks activities. Next week is Numbers Week!

Summary of the third week / DayCare

We had a great third week back at school! This week we learned about our feelings. We played games to learn how we can express our feelings such as Simon Says with feelings, feelings with movement, and we had two great discussions about what can happen to us to make us feel a certain way.
We also read four books that taught us about our emotions. The books were:

My Many Colored Days
By: Dr. Seuss
When Sophie Gets Angry- Really, Really Angry
By: Molly Bang

I Fell...
By: Tessa Court

The Feelings Book
By: Todd Parr

After reading the Dr. Seuss book, My Many Colored Days, we did a follow up class activity. The boys and girls were asked to choose a color that makes them feel happy. After they chose their color they then colored in a figure of a person that is showed throughout the Dr. Seuss book. Here are a few examples of the children's hard work! We found out that not just one color makes us feel happy :)

Next week we will be learning about the ABC's! We are all very excited about this topic

Third week / Montessori Development Lesson

Our third week back was very good and active. We have learnt action songs that the children really enjoyed. Often they wanted to sing more during free play time. The children now feel at home and they are familiar with the toys, the other children and with the teachers.
Next week are going to continue with more action songs and more big movement development.

Welcome back to Lotti and Maxim!

We are so happy that we are all back together at school. It is great to see all your familiar faces, but we have some new friends at school too. We are so thrilled to make new friends at school!

During the first week of school we have been getting to know one another better. We have been playing name games and games that teach us about one another. All of the children are very interested about one another and each other's personal interests.

Also, this week we have been focusing on our listening skills and how to follow instructions when playing games. To practice our listening skills we played an interactive game where a child was blindfolded and had to listen to the sound of another child's voice saying, "Who am I?" Then the child that was blindfolded had to state who the child speaking was. To learn how to follow instructions we played "Simon says." During the game boys and girls had to listen to instructions, and then had to complete an action that was called out by "Simon." Example, "Simon says touch your toes." All children would then touch their toes. Afterwards the older girls in the group took part in giving instructions to the younger children. While taking part in both games the children were very engaged and excited to learn new things.

On Friday, we have gym and now we will be practicing yoga! The boys and girls are very excited to move their bodies around.

On Kata's Lesson the topic was " My Body" in the past two weeks. The children got familiar with their body parts through many different songs. At the end of the two weeks the children made paper plate faces as a closing part of the topic.

They are going to learn action songs next week.

We had a wonderful second week back together with everyone and are looking forward to an amazing year.

English language development

To have another language is to possess a second soul.”

The lessons give great opportunity to focus on English language development. Native speakers can enrich their growing vocabulary and non- native children can get acquainted with the rhythm and the intonation of the language.

Here are some of the benefits of learning a second or even a third language at an early age. Children have the most to gain from this wonderful adventure. Quite simply, starting early offers the widest possible set of benefits and opportunities. The joy with which children explore their first language makes childhood the ideal time for a second language

·         Better and more advanced reading skills
·         Greater confidence
·         Gives brains a boost
·         Natural-sounding, native-like accent
·         Greater opportunities for college and careers
·         Bigger view of the world
·         Students who have studied a foreign language perform much better than their monolingual
          peers

The role of the parent during the lessons

- Support your child's individual development.
- Follow your child's own interest.
- Give help to your child to do the tasks by herself/ himself.
- Never correct your child while he or she is playing with a toy
( unless it is inapproproate or dangerous e.g. throwing).
- It is the material that teaches your child.
- BE A QUIET OBSERVER OF YOUR CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT.

Leaving your child in the care of the teachers

- We would like to model a regular Montessori classroom environment where children work peacefully on their own.
- We would like children to feel safe and secure in this environment without their parents being present.
-  It takes time to get used to a new environment and to be around new people. It is a very slow process. Please, allow sufficient time to your child and to yourself to go through this phase.
